Defense

Parry

A parry is a subtle tap or redirect of an incoming punch, using your glove to knock it off line rather than absorbing or slipping it. It opens instant counter opportunities.

How to do it

  1. 1Meet the incoming jab with a small inward tap of the rear hand.
  2. 2Deflect — don't reach or swat wildly.
  3. 3Keep the elbow in and stay in stance.
  4. 4Fire your counter through the opening.

Common mistakes

  • Reaching out and exposing your chin.
  • Over-committing to a big swat.
  • Parrying and forgetting to counter.
