Defense
Slip
Slipping is rotating your upper body slightly so a straight punch (jab or cross) slides past your head. It keeps both hands free to counter — one of the highest-level defensive skills.
How to do it
- 1Rotate at the waist, moving the head just off the centerline.
- 2Bend the knees slightly — move the whole torso, not just the neck.
- 3Keep eyes on the opponent.
- 4Return to center ready to counter.
Common mistakes
- Slipping too far and losing balance.
- Only moving the head (neck strain).
- Closing the eyes.
